Alapag to coach Alab Pilipinas; Standhardinger set to play in ABL

Philippine basketball icon Jimmy Alapag is the newest coach of Alab Pilipinas when the new season of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) kicks of later this year.

The former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player and team manager was also an integral part of Gilas Pilipinas (Philippine national team) who played in the 2014 World Championships in Spain.

The PBA’s all-time league leader in three-point field goals made is currently one of the assistants for the national team.

Alapag will be replacing erstwhile coach Mac Cuan, who will be sliding as an assistant to the team.

In related news, Christian Standhardinger will be playing with the ABL defending champions Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions as confirmed by his sports agent.

Standhardinger, who is a vital cog of the Gilas Pilipinas team, is currently in Lebanon competing for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

In two games against powerhouse China and Iraq, the center-forward is averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
