The name of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings coach Tim Cone was being floated to the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) New York Knicks president Phil Jackson to be part of the teams’ coaching staff.

The most accomplished coach in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) with 19 titles under his belt including two grand slams was recommended by American sportswriter and book author Ronald Lazenby to the Knicks due to his deep understanding of running the Triangle (Triple Post) Offense, a system used by Jackson during his Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers championships.

The Knicks went into another losing season, their fourth straight, after finishing the season with a 31-51 win-loss record and failing to advance in the playoffs despite having a roster of former all-stars that included Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and sophomore Kristaps Porzingis.

News that Cone will graciously decline in case that there will be an offer in the table.
