Euro Basket : France versus Spain

Wednesday September 16th, Lille France

France against Spain, once again one of these teams will eliminate the other in an international competition.

A long rivalry which promise a great semi final on Thursday night.

In 2013 in Lituania, France is playing against Spain, the team which has always defeated French players for so many years, for the Euro semi final. At the half time Spain lead by 14, but because of Tony Parker, French team played hard in defense and finally win this game after overtime to become the next European champion.

In 2014, the World Cup was in Spain and Spanish players had a mission, bring a medal at home. They gathered the best team, even the USA prefer to select players like DeMarcus Cousins to prepare themselves for the final against Spain. The Gasol brothers, Navarro, Rodriguez, Ibaka, Rubio, the Roja was ready and wanted revenge against a French team without Parker, Mahinmi, Seraphin or Turiaf. France won and humiliated Spain once again at home.

Probably one of the greatest game of this competition

Now it is 2015, semi finals of the Euro in France and Spain wants the victory at all costs. This time France is strong and has not lost a game in this competition. Lead by Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, Nicolas Batum and the impressive young men Rudy Gobert, Nando De Colo and Evan Fournier. Spain misses Marc Gasol, Navarro, Ibaka or Rubio but Pau is still here, at 35 years old he is the best player of the Euro and his teammate at Chicago Nikola Mirotic helps him very well.

“We came in France to beat them here” Said Pau during a time out against Greece to motivate his teammates. Then he added to the press “If we play against France, it will be a special game, a very tied game as always. We can beat them.”

France is favorite but the French coach prefers to be careful.

“For them the revenge feeling is more important. They are coming to beat us, they want to do the same thing we did to them last year. But it is not our job to make this game an emotional game, the public will ! We have to focus on our game. It is the game everybody is waiting for, in front of our public it will be a great game. Spain is still a great team, I have always thought they were one of the¬†contenders for the title. They are really strong, we have to be very aggressive and work on Pau Gasol in defense.” Vincent Collet, French coach
