Jay Humphries NBA Player & Coach to be a featured speaker at GBSL

Atlanta——-The former 12 year NBA veteran Jay Humphries who is an experienced professional coach will be a feature speaker at the Overseas Prep Seminar at the Global Basketball Summer League. The objective of the seminar is to provide young professional players information and guidance that will impact their International basketball careers. Over one hundred players will attend both sessions of the Overseas Prep Seminar,

The majority of the players at the GBSL are rookies looking to embark their professional careers in the overseas market. Jay Humphries will be able to provide them excellent insight from a professional player’s perspective. He will also be able to provide valuable information from a NBA and International basketball coaching standpoint. Jay is an exceptional communicator that has mentored hundreds of professional players on and off the court.

Jay Humphries is a retired NBA player that played 12 seasons in the league. He was the 13th overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft and played with the Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics. Humphries retired in 1995 and holds a career average of 11.1 points and 5.5 assists per game. Jay had an outstanding college career at University of Colorado where he broke (16) school records. Humphries has an extensive professional coaching career that includes stints in the NBA, NBA D League, China and Korea. He has been mentored by Jerry Sloane, Mike D’Antoni, Alvin Gentry and Lionel Hollins.

In the 2014-15 NBA season, Jay was the Brooklyn Nets Assistant Coach and held the same position for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013-14.  Jay was the first Head Coach of the Reno Big Horns in the NBA D League in 2009. In 2010-11 & 2011-12, Humphries worked for the Foshan Linglions (CBA) in China as their Head Coach and Director of Player Development. In 2001, Humphries began his basketball professional coaching career as an Associate Head Coach in the Chinese (CBA). He also spent another five years in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) as the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach.
