The New Orleans Hornets Snapped Atlanta Hawks Streak at 19

Anthony Davis
The New Orleans Hornets snapped one of the best regular season winning streaks in NBA history when they defeated the Atlanta Hawks 115-100 on Monday night. The Hawks were overwhelmed by the fresh legs of the New Orleans team and the performance of Anthony Davis who scored 29 points and 13 rebounds. The Pelicans out rebounded the Hawks 52-32 and controlled the tempo of the game throughout the contest. Eric Gordon also had a quality game for New Orleans as he scored 20 points including going 4-6 from the 3-point line. Omer Asik grabbed 17 rebounds also for the winning side.
The Hawks were led by Jeff Teague who scored 21 points and Kyle Korver was the only other efficient scorer with 12 points on 5-7 from the field and 2-2 from the 3-point line.
The defeat is probably a blessing in disguised because the Hawks now won’t have the game to game pressure that is associated with trying to focus on maintaining a streak. Last season the Miami Heat spent a lot of energy in the regular season trying to break the NBA regular season record during their 27 game winning streak that maybe affected them in the playoffs. The other factor is that the Hawks played 5 games in a 7 day period and New Orleans was coming off a two day rest period and was at home. They definitely were the fresher team and were eager to stop the Hawks hot winning streak.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday night at Phillips Arena against a very good Washington Wizards team. The game could be a possible dress rehearsal to a future playoff opponent in the NBA Eastern Conference. The best teams in the NBA Eastern Conference that should contend for the title includes the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Wizards and possibly the Raptors.
