It’s early in the season, but the Atlanta Hawks (6-1) have completely dusted off their early season rust and are playing in midseason form, and that includes defense. On Wednesday night the Hawks win over the Brooklyn Nets was exactly the most harmonious game the franchise has ever played, especially after last season’s symphony of teamwork and selflessness had the super-star-less Hawks win the top seed in the East. But with several key players sidelined due to injury, individual effort, especially on defense, kept ATL rolling.
15 steals and 10 blocks filled the stat sheet for Atlanta. Paul Millsap had five steals and Kent Bazemore and Jeff Teague had three each. Justin Holiday had four blocks and Al Horford and Bazemore had two each. It was the first time the Hawks reached those numbers since April 9, 1997 in a game against the 76ers.
